Objective: The present study aims to intelligently validate and empirically test the healthy banking culture model in the Iranian banking system and examine the impact of five main dimensions (professional ethics, organizational culture, organizational spirituality, leadership and governance, and banking supervision) on this culture.
Method: This study is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-correlational survey in terms of nature. The statistical population included employees and customers of selected branches of the National Bank of Iran. The sample size was calculated based on the Cochran formula as 259 people, but in order to increase reliability, 300 questionnaires were distributed and collected. The research instrument was a researcher-made questionnaire with 30 items based on a five-point Likert scale. Content validity was examined by experts and construct validity by confirmatory factor analysis. The reliability of the instrument was confirmed by Cronbach's alpha (0.91 for the entire questionnaire) and composite reliability (above 0.89 for all constructs). Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22 and SmartPLS version 3.2.9 software.
Findings: The results of structural equation modeling showed that all five dimensions have a positive and significant effect on healthy banking culture. The highest path coefficient was related to professional ethics, followed by leadership, organizational culture, organizational spirituality, and banking governance and supervision, respectively. The model fit indices indicated a favorable fit of the model. Also, the Friedman test showed that from the respondents' perspective, professional ethics and leadership are respectively the most important in the formation of healthy banking culture.
Conclusion: The five-dimensional model of healthy banking culture in the Iranian banking system has high empirical validity. To promote the cultural health of banks, it is necessary to simultaneously focus on strengthening professional ethics, empowering ethical leaders, improving organizational culture, institutionalizing organizational spirituality, and strengthening governance and supervision mechanisms.
