Developing a Smart Strategic Planning Model for Ecotourism Development in Peri-Urban Spaces of Mashhad Metropolitan Area

Abstract
Planning for tourism development depends on various factors and conditions, which can be achieved if they are systematically and structurally applied. This indicates the importance and necessity of developing future perspectives in the tourism development process. The importance of tourism and the need to study and research it, given its important role in our lives, is not hidden from anyone. However, today, the acceptance of tourism is more related to its economic aspect than anything else, especially since it has a high potential in the field of international trade. In the present study, an attempt is made to explain the strategic planning model for the development of ecotourism in the peri-urban spaces of the Mashhad metropolis in a practical way. In this study, data on climatic elements such as temperature, relative humidity, and data on factors such as natural landscapes, historical attractions, communication routes, and amenities were used. The research method is descriptive and analytical and of an applied type. For analysis, important tourism data and options were analyzed using SWOT and AHP methods. The results show that based on the SWOT index, the presence of natural landscapes with a score of 4.6 and historical attractions with a score of 4.3 were recognized as strengths, and the lack of health facilities with a score of 0.37 and the lack of parking with a score of 0.36 were recognized as weaknesses. By examining the AHP method, it was determined that the temperature indices with a weighted sum of 2.35, relative humidity with a weighted sum of 1.54, and natural landscapes with a weighted sum of 0.98 are the most important criteria in attracting tourism to the peri-urban spaces of the Mashhad metropolis.
